design process
From call to completion, Root Garden Design (RGD), will get the process up and running within a minimal time span. Based in Bury St Edmunds, we offer a quality garden design service in the East of England and London.

Be it at your house, commercial or communal site, RGD provide an initial first visit free of charge, to talk about your needs and requirements, including the practicalities in your very own green space. From this follows the measuring up and design ideas. We can also offer hands-on help and advice for your troubled space if you’re just looking to spruce up and revamp your garden.

If you choose to take our site visit further, RGD will provide a full site analysis (including accurate measuring, situation, soil and aspect). Working with the design brief already discussed and within your budget, the concept sketches will be created for your approval. These can then be further adapted until you are completely satisfied with the final design plan. No planting, just borders are added at this stage and ‘Bones’ ie trees, hedges and structures. Cost is dependable on the size of the plot.

full scale plans
Scale plans are detailed and will present the permanent structure and overall look of your new space. Borders are placed to show existing and potential new planting. Construction plans are also included to ensure contractors have an accurate plan to work from. The cost of this service will be dependant on the size of the space, but will be discussed with you at all stages of the process.

construction and build
Building work is not carried out by RGD, however, we can recommend a builder to you if you do not have your own contractor to use. You will then liaise with the chosen contactor on start dates, with payment made direct to them. RGD can offer support whilst the building work is in the construction stage for both yourself and the contractor, and will also provide continued support for any of your queries on completion.

With planting, everything needs to work, not just colour, but aspect, soil and situation. Plants don’t like to be just plonked anywhere. The planting plans show everything planted in your garden based on your new design. Be it traditional, modern or contemporary. Town, country or roof top space, we believe in filling the borders with lush, billowing, and fragrant, healthy plants. RGD source the majority of our plants from local, small, quality nurseries.
